| The entire island is just 6.2 miles long and 3 miles across and offers a beautiful sunset overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. Oftentimes Fort Myers Beach is overshadowed by its much-touted and more affluent neighbors, Sanibel and Captiva islands. However, Fort Myers Beach has just as much to offer and is usually more affordable. Fort Myers Beach is much more laid back than Sanibel and Captiva and is a great beach for the family or singles looking for that beach bum experience. The intersection at San Carlos and Estero boulevards is the hotspot of Fort Myers Beach, often referred to as Times Square by folks who live there. This spot is home to a variety of typical beach shops, bars and restaurants. However, this atmosphere is not characteristic of the rest of the beach, which is home to traditional cottages, condos and serene motels.
